"Referrals Please!"

Hlelo Fmaliy and Fiendrs, lol                                          2/25/13

What a crazy week.  We've had a lot of things happen and I don't know where to start... I guess I do, “MISSIONARY WEEKLY”!!!!!!! LET"S GOOOOOOOOoooooooo!!!

Missionary Weekly!!!!!!

Welcome to “Missionary Weekly”, where we view the progress of the searchers of the Gospel truth. Today.... beginning of a new transfer as a District Leader!!!! How does District Meeting go? And..... another “Golden” referral? How the lessons are going for the people that are searching.... all this and more on “Missionary Weekly”!!!!

February 19, 2013 - Not much happened this day. It was transfer day and good ole Elder Edwards is leaving us to go to Rocklin, 3rd Ward.  We had to baby sit his companion, Elder Hileman for a time.  We weren't able to get much work done.

February 20, 2013 - We had a lesson with a guy named, Damon. He is a big guy with a crazy past.  He grew up in downtown L.A. in a rough family with no religious background.  We have to teach him very simple terms. Our lesson consisted of watching “The Restoration” and answering questions that he had. He is a really cool guy. He is scary when you meet him but very friendly.

February 21, 2013 - My first District Meeting this day ... I was very anxious for my first time teaching district meeting, but according to the others, I did a very good job. We talked about working with members and how to get them to help with the work. That is one of the toughest things on a mission, is getting member referrals.  It’s especially hard to get referrals at dinner appointments. When we do get them it’s the greatest thing ever.  So Mom if you invite the Missionaries to dinner be ready to give them a referral.  I know you will be blessed for it. That advice goes for all of my readers of this email or blog (if you are reading from the blog).
Now we get to the part where referrals are the best thing. We are teaching a boy named Eric Rodriguez.  He is 17 years old and he has no home except with a less-active family that we are trying to work with. His parents want nothing to do with him. The only memory of his Dad was him beating his Mom nearly to death with a bat. His Mom wants nothing to do with him either. She told him that him and his younger brother are dead to her. So, he is truly searching for happiness in his life.  What do you do when you want happiness?  Call the Missionaries because they can help. He is a very bright kid and graduated from High School at 16.  He really loves the lessons we share and on this day he said he wanted to get baptized.  AWESOME, but we want to make sure that we are not baptizing someone who is simply a less-active member.  In the mean time we are going to continue to work with him.

February 22, 2013 - We had another lesson with Eric today and he is doing awesome!!!!! We also had our weekly planning session...yah.  We had dinner with a semi-active family. The wife and her son are active, but the husband and the older son are not active.  They are a very fun family!!!

February 23, 2013 – Rake, rake, raking leaves... oh the joy. I hope you can hear the sarcasm.  We raked some leaves for a guy named, Nobal.  OH MY GOSH!!!! I love service and all, but when it’s the same project each time and that takes a couple of weeks to do? Sigh...

February 24, 2013 – Sunday…. Church, home teaching and DINNER!!!!.... That was it.

         Now for Q & A CORNER!!!!
Q1.   What was the highlight of the past week?  What was the hardest part of the past week?  What thing did you learn about yourself this past week?  What did you learn about Elder Himmer this past week?

A1.  Having the Awesome lesson with Eric and all the other investigators would be the highlight of the week. Going tracting was the hard part of course. I learned that I'm old... Mission wise anyway.   I learned that Elder Himmer is a total “Goofball”.... from the Goofy Movie.

Q2.   Who did you get letters from this past week?  Did you get a Valentines package from us and from Crissy?  Do you need anyone specific's address or email?  Does Elder Himmer get mail from home?

A2. Yes I letters from you guys and Crissy, as well as Grandma and Grandpa Morris!!! Yes, I got the package and I loved it (SMILEY FACE). I don't know anyone specifically, but how about Sister Stott’s mission address? I’d like addresses for any of my friends that are currently on missions. Yeah, Elder Himmer gets mail from home.

Q3.   How are your District Leader responsibilities going?  Do you like that calling?  What is the biggest challenge with your calling?  What do you enjoy the most about your calling?

A3. It's going well.... just like riding a bike. I like it. It’s tough though. District meeting and setting up exchanges, would be the challenging part of my calling. I enjoy helping the other Missionaries.

Q4.   How many lessons did you teach this past week?  Which investigator made you think and study the most?  Are any of your investigators getting close to making the commitment of Baptism?  Did you learn anything new from an investigator?

A4.  We taught 19 lessons, I believe? Rich Brown makes me study and ponder the most... oh man, don't get me started...  he really makes me think and study a lot!!! Our investigators are just getting held up with small things. I learned from an investigator that prayer should to be very personal.

Q5.   Besides the Montgomery family, who invites you to dinner often?  Do you ever approach the gospel with the Montgomery's?  Why do they continue to have missionaries over, but have never been converted to the gospel?  They sent a few rather wild pictures home to us.  One picture was of you all wearing weird hats and one picture of Elder Hileman biting your ear.  Did all of those Elders stay in your district or did they get transferred?

A5. The Titus Family invites us to dinner often.  Actual this past Sunday we told the Montgomery’s about the Mission Conference that is coming up. I don't know why they have not been converted, but one day the right missionary will come and they will accept it. Oh, Hileman is a funny guy...lol   All of the Elders, but one will stay… Elder Edwards is transferring... (Sad face).

Sorry … that's all folks.  Love ya!!!!!
