"Happy New Year"

Hello Family and Friends,                            12/31/12

And HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND MERRY NEW YEAR!!!! Sorry about my lack of E-mails and lack of information.  It seems when the Missionary's life on a mission begins to get shorter the shorter the emails become.  I have seven and a half months to go, but who's counting? Really... Mom? Well I better get to “Missionary Weekly”, and tell you about my LONG week.

 Missionary Weekly

Welcome back to “Missionary Weekly”, where we travel with the Greatest Evangelist of all time.  Today, we see how a Missionary Christmas is different from other Christmas'.  How do 4 Elders fit in a tiny apartment? How do you survive that squeeze and also another great Baptism?  Read about all this and more on “Missionary Weekly”.

12-25-12: Merry Christmas! Today, I got to skype home to my Family. It was great to see them and hear them as well.  I miss them very much. It’s hard to believe that I only have one more phone call to make on my mission. It's insane. Thank you all who sent amazing gifts.  You are all amazing.

12-(26-30)-12: Is it crowded in here or is it just me? Talk about “4 Elder Apartments” this was insane as well. The other Elders in our district had to move into our place for 7 days because the members they live with had family coming over for Christmas.  For 7 days we were crowded in here. It was crazy.

12-29-12: Today was Jon’s Baptism.  It was a hectic, but a rewarding day. The Date came up fast much faster than usual, but it was done and went very well.  Jon's Dad did the baptism and we were the witnesses. Jon's Dad did the confirmation as well the next day.

That's it for Missionary Weekly Now for Q&A corner

Q1.   How did Jon's Baptism go?  I hope it was a spiritual and special experience for all who attended.  He may be the key to many more investigators and baptisms.

A1. It went very well. Especially the spiritual aspect.

Q2.   How was Church today?  Did any of your investigators or less-actives come today?  What was the message you heard at Church today?  I find that you hear the one thing that is meant just for you.  I am eager to put into action the things I have learned for me today.

A2. It was very well. A few of our investigators and less-actives did come to Church. A lot of the messages were reports on Missionary experiences.

Q3.   What did you think about your Christmas package?  Did everything fit?  Is there anything that you need that I did not include?  How was the rest of your Christmas Day?  Tell us a little more about the Titus family.  They seemed like good people.

A3. I LOVED IT!!!! Yeah everything fits.  There wasn’t anything missing, that I can think of.  It was Capital Awesome. The Titus family is a very spiritual family.  They love the missionaries. They use to house the missionaries in their home.

Q4.   Do you have big New Years Resolutions planned?  Maybe they should just be called New Goals.  I have several Resolutions but they are very attainable and I won't break them.  It is not to lose weight because I know that is never a good goal for me.

A4. Yeah, pretty much the same resolutions or goals as last year.

Q5.   What do you do on New Years Day?  Is it a p-day like Christmas or do you still go out and tract?  I would assume most people have big family dinners and things like that.  Do you have a dinner appointment for New Years Day?  We will be staying home for New Years Eve and New Years Day.  Decided it was less expensive than traveling up to Idaho.  Maybe next year we'll all go to Grandma and Grandpa's house?

A5.  We will be going door to door and that sort of stuff. Yeah, we do have a dinner appointment. Nice.

Q6.   Here it is.... what was the best part of the past week?  What was the worst part of the week?  What made you smile?  What inspired a silent prayer?  What motivated you to work harder?

A6. Best part of course was Christmas. Worst part was being crowded in our apartment.  Seeing you guys on Skype made me smile.  I prayed that the Baptism would go well.  Jon's Baptism motivates me to work harder and be part of more of those experiences.

Well I got to go.  Love ya all!!!! I wouldn't mind getting those CDs.  I would love them.

"Bars and Baptism?"

Hello Family and Friends!!!                                12/10/12

Man what an amazing week!!!! We have big News!!!!! Jon Milward!!! Is going to be baptized on December 29th!!!! YEAH!!!! It's an amazing story on how he got his confirmation.... at a bar!!! Lol  He was talking to someone at the bar and the subject of religion came up and boom, he wants to be baptized!!!!
Man I'm all jumpy about it!!!

 Well I guess I'll go to Q & A Corner!!!!

Q1.  Have you put up your Christmas Decorations?  Do you still have your little tree from last year?  Do you have some Christmas CDs?  Music is really the key to feeling the Christmas Spirit.

A1.  A few of them, the tree, the calendar and that's pretty much all. Yeah, I have a few CDs, but not a lot.

Q2.  How is the weather?  I heard you had tons of rain.  I hope it isn't too bad.  Do you still have a car?  Are you using your coat? Do you need any other winter clothing?

A2.  It rained a bit, but now its Sunny today!!!! Yes, thank goodness I’m still in a car area. I hope I never have to bike up here. Yeah, I’m wearing my coat.  No, I don’t really need any winter clothing.

Q3.   Grandma was asking if you have had any experiences that involved dogs?  Rebekah has had some bad experiences with dogs in El Salvador.  I know you had mentioned one of the homes you visited had dogs.  I’m just curious if Missionaries feel about dogs like mail carriers do? lol

A3.  If you count cuddling with members dogs then yeah, but other than that, dogs aren’t really a problem. Missionaries just have to be faster than their companion. lol

Q4.   How are all your investigators?  How is Kyle and Jon doing?  Have you had any commit to Baptism yet?  Did any show up to Church yesterday?

A4.  They are well. Kyle, we're still been having trouble with him. John is getting baptized in December, Yes!

Q5.   What was the best thing about this past week?  Did anything happen or did you hear anything that truly motivated you this past week?  How many lessons did you teach this past week?  How is Elder Miller doing?  Is he getting any renewed enthusiasm or motivation?  What can we do to help both of you feel energized and motivated?

A5.   The Baptism announcement really made my day.  Nothing really motivated me, just the baptismal announcement. We taught 21 lessons.  Elder Miller is doing well and we’re good now.  Little by little he seems to be getting more motivated.  There is nothing you can do really, but just say a lot of prayers.

Q6.  Are you getting lots of dinner invitations?  Have you had any new foods lately?  Do you have a Costa Vida in Paradise?  We still haven't been there to eat, but it is on our "to do list".

A6.  Oh yeah, a LOT!!! We have had a few new foods, but not that I can name off the top of my head. No, we don’t, but I wish, I wish we had a Costa Vida.  You had better try it.

Well that's all I have to say for this letter.
Love ya all!!!!

Short and Sweet

Hello Family and Friends                                          12/3/12
Sorry, I'm not on my e-mail speed.  People like to be on the computer, so another email that is short and sweet.

Let's just do Q & A CORNER!!!!

Q1.   How was Thanksgiving?  Did you have dinner with a member family?  What was your favorite part?  Did you get any leftovers to take home?

A1.   It was ok.  We didn't have a member dinner because they had to cancel because they forgot. We just hung around with other missionaries.  It was an all day P-DAY, playing card games and board games.   We did in fact have Thanksgiving the day before.

Q2.   Have you gotten any new investigators?  How are Kyle and Jon doing?  What was a growing experience you had with your lessons this past week?  What was something new you learned?

A2.   Our Neighbor is our new investigator.  Kyle, we haven't met with yet and Jon is doing awesome.  Our lessons taught me about the power of good talks.  I learned the importance of not losing a planner.

Q3.   Thanks for the ideas about gifts for Christmas.  I forgot to ask what your sizes are for pants, shirts, garments, shoes etc?  I also forgot to ask where Elder Miller is from?  What is his first name?  How great that you both are losing weight and staying healthy.  Do you both like Nutella, granola bars, jerky etc.  I would be happy to send a little of that your way.

A3.  My pants are 36 waist, large shirt, 9 and a half shoes.  Elder Miller is from Twin Falls, ID.  His first name is Bryson.  Yeah, I'm down to 197 lbs. Yep, yep, and yep we both like all of those things!

Q4.  How was Sunday?  Did anyone come to Church that you invited or are teaching?  What was your message from Church?  Tell us about a member in your ward that inspires or motivates you?
A4.    It was good.  Yeah, most of our investigators came to Church.  The message at Church was the importance of the scriptures and the words of the Prophets.  Brother Titus inspires and motivates me.  By the way, Brother Titus’s house is where we are going to skype from at Christmas.

Q5.   Are you reading your 6 pages a day from the Book of Mormon?  I like President Weston's Challenge and I plan to do it too!  I am a bit behind because I have been sick but I am sure I can catch up fast.  Maybe the rest of the family will do the challenge as well.

A5.  Yeah, I think the challenge is awesome, but I did fall behind a couple time so I have a lot of catching up to do.

Q6.   How often do you interview with President Weston?  Do you tell him about your concerns and challenges?  Does he seem to know what you need?  Are you the senior companion and do you do the reports to President Weston?  Do you feel like he is aware of your companionship and the work you are doing?

A6.  We interview with President Weston every other transfer, so this transfer we will be having interviews. Nah, I can get over it. Yeah, President seems to know what we need, but you know me “Endure to the End”. Nope, Elder Miller is still the senior companion, but we do reports together. Yeah, I'm sure he is aware of our companionship and the challenges that involves. We are doing well.  We now have 6 more weeks together. Transfers came and we're still together, so “Endure to the End”.

Q7.  What happened with Transfers this week?  Are you happy with what happened? I am eager to hear about it all.

A7.  Oh, yeah.  We're still together.

Q8.   How has the weather been?  Today has been wild and windy.  Gusts up to 50 miles an hour, and now it is raining.  I hope you have had better weather than that, although I noticed that it rains there a lot!  I hope you are staying as dry as you can.

A8.  The weather is wet, VERY WET!!!! LIKE 12 INCHES OF RAIN, WHOO HOO!!!!!

So, I have to go.  People want to email.  Know that I love you all and wish to hear from all of you.  I'm sorry that I never get back.... crazy busy stuff.

Love ya,
      Elder Nathan Morris

"Rainy Days"

Hello Family and Friends,                                                     11/19/12
I am so sorry that I didn't email last week. Things have been SUPER crazy!!!

It is time for a special “Missionary Weekly”.

“Missionary Weekly”

Baptism, one of the biggest!!! - Sis. Franks had her baptism last Saturday. It was SUPER big!!! We had about 40 people there and about a third of them were Non – Members.  It was awesome!!! It went off very well, the spirit was strong there.

Rainy Days, Sick times - Man, the sickness is spreading through the mission. lol Miller just hasn't been well.  He gets sick on and off, but he's doing better now.  We've been getting a lot of rain!!! I mean A LOT OF RAIN!!! I haven't been sick much, yet.

Jon Milward - Jon is doing well, but still a tough cookie to crack. Kyle is doing well too.  We were going to have a lesson with him this week, but they had to cancel.  Both are progressing well.

ZONE CONFERENCE - We also had a Zone Conference this week. We talked about the missionary increase, and President Weston issued a challenge to us to read 6 pages out of the Book of Mormon everyday from now till February.  We are to finish it.  We also talked about the www.mormon.org/christmas web page that is going up after Thanksgiving on November 26th. Check it out, it sounds cool.

That's it for “Missionary Weekly”; time to go to Q&A CORNER!!!!

Q1.   Did you have two Baptisms last Saturday?  Did you perform either of the ordinances?  How did Sister Franks feel about the day?  How did you feel about the day?

A1. No we just had one. No, her son did the ordinance, Brother Brian Herring.  She really enjoyed it a lot. It was amazing.

Q2.   Did you get snow this past week?  Did you get any of the storms that we had?  How do you feel about driving in snow and rain?  Do you drive often?  Who does most of the driving, you or Elder Miller?

A2. Nope, but we did get rain. I'm ok with driving. Miller drives most of the time.

Q3.   I'm sorry I don't know who your friends are so I don't know who to follow and share information about.  I can tell you that Hannah Holladay received her mission call.  She is going to Kennewick, Washington (where Evonne Guzzle is serving).  Sonja Morris is waiting for her call.  Any advice you would like me to pass along to Hannah?  Maybe you could write her a letter, she doesn't leave till January 16th.  Is there anyone specific you would like me to find out about for you?

A3. That’s cool about Hannah! Yeah, um I would tell her to study PMG and the Book of Mormon.  I might also tell her to prepare to be hosed at the MTC!!! There isn’t really anyone specific I’d like to hear about except maybe just Doug and everyone you know, I guess.

Q4.   I do have a little sad news.  Grandma's sister, Aunt Sharon's husband passed away.  My Uncle Larry.  I know you have met him several times but it would be hard to remember him, I'm sure.  He had Alzheimer and he was not doing well so it was a blessing for him.  We will all miss him though.  Have you had to teach anyone who had lost a family member recently?  It is a chance to share a very important part of the gospel.  What is the hardest lesson you teach to your investigators?

A4. Not really, well not lost from death. The hardest lesson to teach would probably be the Word of Wisdom because people just can't give up their addictions.

Q5.   When is Elder Miller's Birthday?  When is his release date? Has he been out as long as you or longer?  What is his favorite treat or something that he might enjoy?  Is there anything you are want or need?  What would make your day if you got it in the mail?

A5.  March 26th is Elder Miller’s Birthday. He goes home Sept. 21, 2013. I've been out longer by one month. I really don’t know what he likes.  He would like anything healthy, I guess.  We've both been trying to lose weight. I'm now at 198 lbs. I'm no longer in the 200's. WHOO HOO!!!! I’m still dropping too!!! Let’s see, something I want is the CD I asked for, the “Eclipse Christmas”, White socks, a new bath Towel, I don't know what else. Oh, jeans I need new jeans. I think that's it.

Q6.   What have you been studying?  Have you read any of those little books we bought in the set, Jesus the Christ, Truth restored etc?  A girl that is leaving in December asked me, if she really needed those books.  I was just wondering if you read them or have read any of them?  Have you read any books that you feel are very helpful and inspirational?

A6.  Yeah, I finish “Our Search for Happiness” and “Our Heritage”.  I’m working on “True to the Faith” and “Jesus the Christ”. Oh yeah, those books really do help to understand the gospel very well. They really make you think. Yeah, “Jesus the Christ” is especially important to have.

Q7.  You asked for the 7th question.  What was the best part of your week?  What was the worst part of your week?  What kept you so busy last week that you could not email us?  I am a Mom and no email makes me nervous.  Are you getting along with Elder Miller?  I have had some motherly vibes and hope you will confide in me about your companionship.

A7. The rain was the best part of my week. Driving to Redding was the worst part of the week. We were trying to get a hitch on the car and it was taking forever.  We were busy working with less-actives and we had to save miles for the trip to Redding.

Well got to go. Until Next time,

"Rainy Halloween"

Hello Family and Friends,                                     11/5/12
Man, it feels like forever since I emailed you guys. It has been a very good week with work and such, especially with Halloween. Well, I guess I better head to “Missionary Weekly”.

Missionary Weekly

October 30, 2012 – Feeling a little pre-Halloween anxiety, well not really. We were going to have a lesson with Sister Franks, but she was feeling sick and had to cancel.  She is still in the running for Baptism on November 10th.

October 31, 2012 - Halloweeeeennnn was crappy. It pretty much rained hard, non-stop all evening. It was crap and Oh, Bob Glass dropped us that day. L

November 01, 2012 – Halloween after-party? Not.  Diet starts today. Today was a lesson with Kyle. It went very well. We watched the “Restoration” and he really liked it.

Well, actually that was pretty much it for this week. Not much happened this week. It was a slow week for us missionaries. The other missionary was sick and for some reason he was stuck at our place.  Thank goodness we didn't get sick as well. lol

Sorry mom that my emails are not like they were before. Things have been a little too lax.... well not really lax, just the same stuff over and over.  It just gets tiring to talk about it.

         Lets head to Q&A Corner!!!

Q1.   Are you still on track for 3 Baptisms on November 10th? How are all of your investigators?  Did they all come to Church this week?  I truly enjoy baptisms and when I see men your age baptizing their siblings it always touches my heart.  Wish I had seen the first time you preformed that ordinance.

A1.  Nope, just the one, Sis. Franks on November 10th!!! All the investigators are well, except Bob, who dropped us. They all came to church, well at least the ones we teach and a few others as well.

Q2.   Has the political mumbo jumbo caused any problems for the work?  I'm sure that people are very focused on the election right now.  Has that changed your approach when tracting or contacting potential investigators?  I will be glad when it is all over and done. How do you feel about all of it?

A2.  Politics have not really caused problems. Nope, we haven’t changed our approach. I feel that whoever wins better not screw the world up! L

Q3.   Do you still have a car?  Is your area more rural or urban?  Do you travel far for Church and district or Zone Meetings?  How would you describe Paradise?  Is it a small town or large city?  Is it more forest or desert etc?

A3.  YEAH, we still have a car!!! Paradise is more rural. We do travel for zone meetings, but not for church or district meetings. It’s a lot like Idaho. Paradise is a small town and in the forest.

Q4.   Martin and Crissy are excited about Halo 4 coming out tomorrow.  Martin wants to know what you would like to hear about the game?  I am thinking that you should avoid any discussions or thinking about games.  Stay focused on your mission and the work you should be doing.

A4.  EVERY FRICKEN THING!!!!!! Sorry mom, but I would like to hear a lot!!! lol. J  I won't let it distract me, though. lol

Q5.   How are you and Elder Miller feeling both emotionally and physically?  Are you staying healthy and motivated?  Do you do some exercising each day and eating well?  Stay on top of your Asthma and Allergies.  Take good care of yourself as the season changes and you know the flu starts running around again.  Do missionaries get to have the flu shot?  Just wondering.

A5.  Doing well. Yeah, we are staying healthy and motivated. Yeah, we are doing a “no fat” diet and working out every morning. No flu shots, that I know of, but we’ll see.

Q6.   I heard on the news tonight that applications for new missionaries are up from 700 per week to 4,000 per week.  More than half of those are girls (Sister Missionaries).  What do you think Crissy thinks about that?  Hannah put her papers in a few weeks ago.  She should have her call soon.  Sonja Morris is going to put her papers in this coming March.  I haven't heard of anyone in our ward, but a few from our Stake.  Do you think the drop in age is good and helps?

A6.  I'm not sure, but I think it will help. The Missionary work is going to explode!!!

Ok, that's it for this email.  Safety and Peace!!!!!!
Love,
Elder Morris

"Slow Beginnings"

Hello Family and Friends,                            10/29/12
Man, what a crazy week it has been. Sorry for the wimpy e-mail last time.  The computer was a piece of work, but this week it was good. Transfers went smoothly.  Well, I better start with “Missionary weekly”.

Missionary Weekly

Welcome to “Missionary Weekly” where we check out the Cougars on Campus.... I mean Missionaries in the Field. Today, we see how the transfers brought little change and how the preparation for Sister F's Baptism is coming along.  We will also see how Halloween is for Missionaries.  What are the plans for this year’s celebration?  Read all this and more on “Missionary Weekly”.

Transfer Report: So Not much has happened in the District, only we have a new sister missionary, which I served with in the Auburn Zone (Nevada City). Her name is Sister Lovelund.  My Comp is no longer District Leader.  One of the other Elders is now District Leader.  Elder Miller was a little depressed, but he is now getting over it.  He is now doing well and is “Kick Butt” awesome.

Slow Beginning: Yeah, that pretty much says it all, “slow beginning”. Week one has always been the slowest week of each transfer on my Mission. Sister F is still doing well and we have a lesson with her tomorrow.  The other two are coming along, as well, but I don't think they'll be able to be baptized by November 10th.  We will have to move their dates.

Hair troubles?: For some reason my comp thought it would be cool to bleach his already blonde hair, more blonde.  So... yeah, we fixed it and he's looking better now.  Ha, ha, ha.

That's it for all the “Missionary Weekly”!!!!

Now, to the GREAT Q & A CORNER!!!!

Q1.   How are you and Elder Miller doing?  Are you teaching lots of lessons?  How are your investigators doing?  I hope all is on track for Baptisms on the 10th of this month.  Be sure to take a few pictures for your scrapbook.

A1.  We are doing well.   It was a slow start, but we are moving forward. Our investigators are doing well and progressing.  Will do!!!  I promise to take some pictures.

Q2.   Are you still in a car?  Have you been tracting?  Dad wants to know if you have found any new investigators thru tracting?  Does your ward members help with referrals?  Have you created any activities that would bring you in contact with new investigators?

A2.  Yeah, I hope we keep the car. lol.  We don’t do a lot of tracting. Not in this area yet.  Our ward helps a little, but not a whole lot of referrals.  We do “Sing Tracting”, where we sing a hymn while we are at the doorstep.

Q3.   Now, for your favorite questions.  What was the best part of this past week?  What was the most challenging part of this past week?  What was the funniest part of this past week?  What motivated you the most this past week?

A3. The best part of the week would be the dinner we had last night.  It was a “Ghoulish” dinner. ha ha ha. The challenge would be finding the actual drive to do stuff.  I think Miller's Hair troubles were the funniest part of the week. ha ha ha. Just reading out of the scriptures is my motivation.

Q4.   Did you get the "Halloween Package" yet?  We mailed it on Thursday.  Do you have any requests?  Did you get a letter from the Bishop?  He called to get your address a while back.

A4. Not yet, might get it today!!! Mom you know me, what do I request each time? Music... Yeah I did get a letter from Bishop Gerrard. I was planning on writing him back soon.

Q5.    I got a letter from Evonne Guzzle this week.  She is doing well.  She is going to ask for an extension.  She would come home in February but now she will come home in March or April.  Do you think you would ask for an extension if it were an option?  Are you enjoying your mission?  What has been your favorite area?

A5. Maybe. if I get to that point.  Maybe....Yeah, I really enjoy it a lot. Of course my favorite area is my "Birth" area, Chico 5th!!!

Q6.   President McCleave talked at a High Priest Social the other night.  He talked about why we should write in journals.  Are you writing in your journal?  It is not only for you but others who may need the same inspiration.  Martin may be inspired from your experiences and thoughts.  It won't be long till he is living the same experiences and facing the same decisions.

A6. I've been slacking big time on that I really need to do better.

Well, that's it for this email.
 Love ya!!!

Lumberjacks

Hello family and friends                                                10/22/12

Man what a crazy week 6, lets just head to “Missionary Weekly”....
“Missionary Week... Oh, before I do that let me answer a couple of questions that I didn't answer last time. Yes, accept the request from Travis. He's cool and he doesn't look like that any more.

LOG CHOPPING SERVICE!!! Yep, we had a lumberjack service.  We were cutting logs, tossing logs and delivering logs. We were with one of our other investigators. He actual offered to deliver some wood to one of our recent converts, so that was awesome.

Bleached hair!!!! Elder Miller had a funny idea to bleach his hair? lol!!! I'll send pictures soon.

Q & A corner!!!!!!!

Q1.  First question would have to be what happened with transfers?  How are you feeling about that process today?  Do transfers make your P-day more hectic and different from normal?

A1.  Nothing happened for transfers. We're still together and Elder Miller is no longed District leader. That means less exchanges, yes!

Q2.  How are things progressing for the Baptisms (November 10th)?  Are all your investigators moving forward?  How is Sister Franks?  How is Kyle?  How is Brother Glass?  What about the new investigator? How are you feeling about all of them and their testimonies?

A2.  Sis Franks is still gung ho about it. The other two are not as much. Well, we haven't been able to go over to the other two homes as much.

Q3.  What was your favorite day this past week?  Why would that day be your favorite?  What was the most fun you had this week?

A3.  I have no idea what my favorite day was.  They were all good!!! If I had to choose, it would be Sunday. Sunday was a great spiritual experience and had great talks.

Q4.   Choose something in your ward, neighborhood or community that made an impression on you?  It could be a bad, good or odd impression.  It could be a person, a thing, a place or a view that made you think or take notice.  We want to hear about it.

A4.  What made a great impression on me was a talk on Sunday, by one of our high councilmen about missionaries.  I swear this guy will be a general authority soon.

Q5.  How are all your clothes holding up?  Do you need anything particular?  Do you have enough p-day clothes?  What did you do on p-day today?  What o you enjoy doing on your down time?

A5 Yeah, my clothes are fine. On my down time, I pop in my “Saints and Soldier” CD and doodle or relax. Maybe play magic or whatever it doesn't matter.

Q6.   Are you staying motivated and inspired?  What scripture or talk do you go to when you need a boost or a push in the right direction?  Did anything you taught or heard this past week renew your energy or motivate you?

A6.  Yeah, it would help if you could find Gordon B. Hinckley’s talk on missionary work.  I would love to listen or read that.

Well that’s it. Sorry, the computer is crap and I got to go.

Love ya,
Elder Morris
