"Referrals Please!"

Hlelo Fmaliy and Fiendrs, lol                                          2/25/13

What a crazy week.  We've had a lot of things happen and I don't know where to start... I guess I do, “MISSIONARY WEEKLY”!!!!!!! LET"S GOOOOOOOOoooooooo!!!

Missionary Weekly!!!!!!

Welcome to “Missionary Weekly”, where we view the progress of the searchers of the Gospel truth. Today.... beginning of a new transfer as a District Leader!!!! How does District Meeting go? And..... another “Golden” referral? How the lessons are going for the people that are searching.... all this and more on “Missionary Weekly”!!!!

February 19, 2013 - Not much happened this day. It was transfer day and good ole Elder Edwards is leaving us to go to Rocklin, 3rd Ward.  We had to baby sit his companion, Elder Hileman for a time.  We weren't able to get much work done.

February 20, 2013 - We had a lesson with a guy named, Damon. He is a big guy with a crazy past.  He grew up in downtown L.A. in a rough family with no religious background.  We have to teach him very simple terms. Our lesson consisted of watching “The Restoration” and answering questions that he had. He is a really cool guy. He is scary when you meet him but very friendly.

February 21, 2013 - My first District Meeting this day ... I was very anxious for my first time teaching district meeting, but according to the others, I did a very good job. We talked about working with members and how to get them to help with the work. That is one of the toughest things on a mission, is getting member referrals.  It’s especially hard to get referrals at dinner appointments. When we do get them it’s the greatest thing ever.  So Mom if you invite the Missionaries to dinner be ready to give them a referral.  I know you will be blessed for it. That advice goes for all of my readers of this email or blog (if you are reading from the blog).
Now we get to the part where referrals are the best thing. We are teaching a boy named Eric Rodriguez.  He is 17 years old and he has no home except with a less-active family that we are trying to work with. His parents want nothing to do with him. The only memory of his Dad was him beating his Mom nearly to death with a bat. His Mom wants nothing to do with him either. She told him that him and his younger brother are dead to her. So, he is truly searching for happiness in his life.  What do you do when you want happiness?  Call the Missionaries because they can help. He is a very bright kid and graduated from High School at 16.  He really loves the lessons we share and on this day he said he wanted to get baptized.  AWESOME, but we want to make sure that we are not baptizing someone who is simply a less-active member.  In the mean time we are going to continue to work with him.

February 22, 2013 - We had another lesson with Eric today and he is doing awesome!!!!! We also had our weekly planning session...yah.  We had dinner with a semi-active family. The wife and her son are active, but the husband and the older son are not active.  They are a very fun family!!!

February 23, 2013 – Rake, rake, raking leaves... oh the joy. I hope you can hear the sarcasm.  We raked some leaves for a guy named, Nobal.  OH MY GOSH!!!! I love service and all, but when it’s the same project each time and that takes a couple of weeks to do? Sigh...

February 24, 2013 – Sunday…. Church, home teaching and DINNER!!!!.... That was it.

         Now for Q & A CORNER!!!!
Q1.   What was the highlight of the past week?  What was the hardest part of the past week?  What thing did you learn about yourself this past week?  What did you learn about Elder Himmer this past week?

A1.  Having the Awesome lesson with Eric and all the other investigators would be the highlight of the week. Going tracting was the hard part of course. I learned that I'm old... Mission wise anyway.   I learned that Elder Himmer is a total “Goofball”.... from the Goofy Movie.

Q2.   Who did you get letters from this past week?  Did you get a Valentines package from us and from Crissy?  Do you need anyone specific's address or email?  Does Elder Himmer get mail from home?

A2. Yes I letters from you guys and Crissy, as well as Grandma and Grandpa Morris!!! Yes, I got the package and I loved it (SMILEY FACE). I don't know anyone specifically, but how about Sister Stott’s mission address? I’d like addresses for any of my friends that are currently on missions. Yeah, Elder Himmer gets mail from home.

Q3.   How are your District Leader responsibilities going?  Do you like that calling?  What is the biggest challenge with your calling?  What do you enjoy the most about your calling?

A3. It's going well.... just like riding a bike. I like it. It’s tough though. District meeting and setting up exchanges, would be the challenging part of my calling. I enjoy helping the other Missionaries.

Q4.   How many lessons did you teach this past week?  Which investigator made you think and study the most?  Are any of your investigators getting close to making the commitment of Baptism?  Did you learn anything new from an investigator?

A4.  We taught 19 lessons, I believe? Rich Brown makes me study and ponder the most... oh man, don't get me started...  he really makes me think and study a lot!!! Our investigators are just getting held up with small things. I learned from an investigator that prayer should to be very personal.

Q5.   Besides the Montgomery family, who invites you to dinner often?  Do you ever approach the gospel with the Montgomery's?  Why do they continue to have missionaries over, but have never been converted to the gospel?  They sent a few rather wild pictures home to us.  One picture was of you all wearing weird hats and one picture of Elder Hileman biting your ear.  Did all of those Elders stay in your district or did they get transferred?

A5. The Titus Family invites us to dinner often.  Actual this past Sunday we told the Montgomery’s about the Mission Conference that is coming up. I don't know why they have not been converted, but one day the right missionary will come and they will accept it. Oh, Hileman is a funny guy...lol   All of the Elders, but one will stay… Elder Edwards is transferring... (Sad face).

Sorry … that's all folks.  Love ya!!!!!

District Leader

                                                                                 2/18/13
Hello Family and Friends,
Big BIG SURPRISE PEOPLES!!!! I...AM...NOT...GETTING TRANSFERRED!!!! AHHHHHHH ... wait ... WHOOOOOOO ... wait...sigh..........wait.........YEAH!!! Ok, I don't know how I feel?  Well, I guess being called District Leader has something to do with it.  Yeah, I'm District Leader now... woo... I guess?  Well, I guess I should go to my “Missionary Weekly” to talk more about the things happening in Cali right now.
 Missionary Weekly!!!!
Welcome to “Missionary Weekly”, where we travel with the Lord's Representatives. Today, we see how exchanges with a good friend bring miracles and … grumpy less-actives and why is this so frustrating? Read about transfer calls, who's going where and doing what? Read all this and more on “Missionary Weekly”!!!

February 12, 2013 - ZONE CONFERENCE!!!! No better way to end a transfer than with a Zone Conference!!!! Unfortunately though I let someone borrow my study journal and I don't remember much from the conference, but I do remember a bit.  We talked about the new missionaries that are coming in as well as the full Mission Conference coming up with an apostle and such.

February 13, 15-17: Regular missionary work and contacting less-actives, a lot of grumpy less-actives.

February 14, 2013 - Exchanges, with one of my favorite missionaries, Elder Edwards.  We had amazing experiences while teaching 6 lessons, tracting, and talking to people.  Elder Edwards is getting transferred to Rocklin. Man I love that kid he is so fun!!!!

That's all for “Missionary Weekly”. Now for Q & A CORNER!!!!!

Q1.   Are you getting transferred?  Do you know where?  Any other changes you want to report?

A1.  Nope, I'm staying and I'm District leader!!!

Q2.  How is Elder Himmer doing?  Will he be staying?  How does he feel about that?  Is he ready to take the lead in teaching all the "formers" and investigators?

A2. He is doing Awesome. Yes, Elder Himmer is staying. Oh yeah, he is happy about staying.

Q3.  Got some pictures from the Montgomery family.  Did you get any other pictures of your apartment, companion and area that you can send home?  I would love some of those photos for your scrapbook or rather letter binder.

A3. Yeah, I'm going to send pictures soon.

Q4.  Dad wants to know if you got his email?  He wants his very own answer email.  I'm not sure one email deserves a special answer?? lol  Who have you heard from lately?  Who would you like to get a letter from?  Do you need anything?

A4. Yeah, I got Dad’s email and I will email him back. I have heard from Crissy and Grandma and Grandpa Morris. I like to hear from just anyone. I would like to hear from the Dransfields, McDougals, Martin, Lydia, and Doug, anyone at all.  I only have 5 and a half months left. I don’t really need anything except letters from family and friends, that's all.

Q5.  Here is your Dad's help with the Q&A - How are your investigators doing?  Any new contacts this week?  Is anyone getting close to Baptism?

A5.  They are doing well.  Yes, we have a few return appointments this week. Yes, but no.  I guess Victoria is getting close to marriage so that is a step closer to Baptism.

Q6.  What was the best part of this past week?  What are you looking forward to this coming week?  What made you nervous or anxious this past week?  Who made you smile and made your day better this past week?

A6. Best part of this week was going on exchanges with Elder Edwards. Yeah, I’m actually looking forward to going tracting.  My District made me nervous and anxious. I'm going to miss the missionaries being transferred they made me smile and always made my day better.

Well, that's it for this email.  I love you all.  Oh, for those who don't know I have a blog. Check out my blog at; http://naterade-ninja512.blogspot.com/

Love ya!!!!!

18 Months Out

Hello Family and Friends!!!!                            2/11/13
It’s been 18 months... thinking about 18 months since I was called to be apart of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles... Wait... hang on...(Chainsaw, Hammer).... there. It’s actually been 18 months since I began my Mission in the California Roseville Mission. It’s insane to think about, just as insane as being called as an Apostle at the young age of 30ish. I guess I should get to the part that everyone loves... “MISSIONARY WEEKLY”!!!!!

Missionary Weekly
Welcome to “Missionary Weekly” where we talk with future Church Leaders!!!! Today, we see how a few feet can make a big difference.... also... contacting going bad and what could happen!!! All this and more on “Missionary Weekly”!!!

February 5, 2013 - How is it that when we go contacting that it never goes as planned even with the lessons?  We had a lesson with a man named Rich Brown.  We thought it would be a good lesson especially with one of our members there, but it didn't go as planned.  It was a light amount of arguing as well as a little dash of Bashing, with a spoon full of getting nowhere.  We are debating whether we should drop him, but we want to give it one more attempt.

February 6, 2013 -... I think I should probably skip this day... Not much happened this day, just trying to contact people. We were going to have a lesson with Victoria this night, but she had to cancel.  We decided to try and visit her later that night. Before we did Elder Himmer looked at our area map and saw that she is just barely outside of our area by like a few feet. That's sad, but we quickly went over to the Ekin’s home (her fellow-shippers). They said that they (Victoria and her Boyfriend currently in Baton Rouge) are planning on moving to Louisiana in the summer.  They said it’s best to teaching her until they actually move.

February 7, 2013 - District Meeting!!! We talked on how to teach the Apostasy, not much to say in the area, just that the Lord's Church was taken off the earth when Jesus Christ and the Twelve Apostles died and many Churches were formed with different doctrines and teachings. We also had a lesson with Kyle Jordan. He is the 12 year old I spoke about before.  We taught the Plan of Salvation.  I felt that the lesson didn't go as well as it should. (*see what happens the next day.)  We also had La cameda's with one of my favorite family's ever...(Bam bam bam...) THE ATKINS!!!!!!! BOO YA!!!! I miss them so much and it was great to see them again!!!!!

February 8-10, 2013 - The rest of the Week was contacting and visiting.  On the 8th we ran into a real jerk. He wouldn't let any of us speak at all, even when he had a question. He would keep interrupting us, jerk. * Oh and Kyle dropped us, I was sad and disappointed.

That's all for “Missionary weekly”.  Now it’s time for Q & A CORNER!!!!!!

Q1.   What's the weather like?  Elder James Beck got the huge “Nemo” storm.  He was snowed in for two days and without power, but he survived just fine.  They did tons of shoveling for neighbors and investigators.

A1. It is warm and sunny, 60s were the highs. I'm glad that James is doing fine.

Q2.   How are all your investigators?  Do you find it harder to teach former investigators?  Why do you think they are investigating the Church again if they did not commit to Baptism the first time?  Do you prepare lessons differently for a former than for a new investigator?

A2.  They are fine. Formers are a little bit harder to teach.  Sometimes they aren't prepared the first time they are taught, but later on something could happen and sparks their interest again. You never really know what happens to bring them back as investigators.

Q3.   Did you ever have dinner with Travis Rathburn and teach his neighbor?  What did you have for dinner?  What is his neighbor's name?  Is she a potential baptism?  I know she asked was asking questions and that sounded promising.

A3. The Neighbor didn't show up sadly. We had Chinese Food!! That was great!!!

Q4.   Do you still work out?  What does Elder Himmer like to do for exercise?  Are you both trying to eat right and taking vitamins.  It is important to stay physically strong as well as spiritually strong.  Exercise also helps with the mental attitude.  A little boost in the serotonin can make for a more cheerful companion. lol

A4. Every now and then we get the workout in. We go to the Gym and we do the same stuff I was doing before.  Well, sometimes we do.

Q5.   Do you need anything specific?  I sent t-shirts in your package.  They are probably way too big but they will be good enough for p-day.  What do you have planned for p-day today?  Are you keeping up with all the domestic chores?  Hope you have some fun and relaxation today too.

A5. Not really, right now we are doing fine.  I'm good till I get transferred, which will be the 19th of this month. Today we are going on a hike with the entire district.

Q6.   What was the best part of your week?  What was something that concerned you or was on your mind this past week?  What was a journal worthy moment this past week?  Did you record your successes and struggles in your journal?  You know you are paving the way for Martin and all your experiences will be important to him soon.

A6. Take your pick and fill in the blanks.  **Just refer to “Missionary Weekly”.

Hey I got to go, LOVE YA!!!!!

"Cleaning Chimneys"

Hello Family and Friends!!!!!                              2/4/13
What kind of email is that MOM!??! Are you trying to get back at me? I said I'm SOWRWRWY!!! I hope that a snail mail comes soon.... any ways this was a pretty good week. Let’s just go to “Missionary Weekly” to talk about it.

Missionary Weekly

Welcome to “Missionary Weekly” where we check out the Lords Servants in the field today...

01/28/13 – Exchanges today and for the first time I got to stay in my area, talk about nerve wracking. It was a good day. We did a lot of visiting and a little bit of tracting.  We ran into a person who is from Utah and she talked to us for a bit.  She wasn't interested but was very nice.  She gave us some disgusting drinks, Ginger ale?  Which, don't get me wrong, I love ginger ale, but the stuff she gave us was diet and it tasted DISGUSTING!!!! She was a nice old lady though.

01/29/13 – Had a lesson with Victoria on the Word of Wisdom and of course that is the biggest issue for everyone, no COFFEE or TEA, but she committed to live it. Sooooooo, Yessss!  Later that night we also had a lesson with one of our “Formers” that we picked up last week.  It was an odd lesson. It was kind of a scripture study at first, and then Elder Himmer jumped in and talked about the Restoration.  It was shaky at first and we got stuck on the topic of the Apostasy.  We got out of that subject fine and now we have a lesson with him tomorrow at 7.  We will bring one of our members with us.

01/30/13 - Cleaning Chimneys for service. Not a lot of stuff today.

01/31/13 - We had an interesting lesson with another one of our “Formers.  It went very well. We had one of our Members there who is very knowledgeable about the gospel.  Wow, there is so much stuff I never knew and the investigator really enjoyed it.

02/02/13 - Baptism today for our excommunicated member and it went great.  It was a very spiritual event.

02/03/13 - Awesome study time with Brother Titus on the Trinity. He talked about how the trinity is not mentioned in the Scriptures The Godhead is explained more in the Book of Mormon. I will talk more on that subject of the trinity vs. Godhead later.

And that's all for “Missionary Weekly”!!!

 Now for Q & A CORNER!!!!!!

Q1.   How was your Sabbath Day?  How did your lesson go?  What did you end up having for dinner?  I hope it was a wonderful and successful Sabbath Day.

A1.  The Sabbath Day was good, we had a regional Stake Conference and L. Tom Perry spoke with other General Authorities as well. They talked about bringing forth Zion. We had Dinner at the Titus' and it was Beef Stroganoff with a little spice.

Q2.   Did you have a baptism this past week?  How are all your investigators doing?  Do you need our prayers for anyone specific?  How many lessons this past week?  What do you feel was your biggest accomplishment this week?

A2.  We sort of had a baptism, it was for an excommunicated person, and so it really doesn't count for our numbers. The other investigators are doing very well. Pray for Victoria, Kyle, James, Bob, Bill, and Rich.  We did 13 lessons not as much as last week, but it is still very good. I guess our accomplishment was having good lessons and staying busy.

Q3.   What is the weather like?  Do you think spring is right around the corner like the ground hog says?  We finally got some sun the past few days and we really needed it.

A3.  It is warm and Sunny here in California. Yeah!!!! Spring!!!!!

Q4.   How is Elder Himmer doing?  Are you both staying healthy?  Is there anything that we can do to make life a little easier for both of you?  What did you do to serve Elder Himmer this week?  Did he do anything that helped you this week?  Remember to take good care of each other.

A4. He is doing Awesome. Yeah, we are both staying healthy. Just send letters and a lot of support that always helps. We are doing better on getting to talk to others as well. Elder Himmer helps me to teach more.

Q5.   What was the best part of the past week?  What was the funniest part of this past week?  What was the most spiritual part of this past week?  What was the most memorable part of this past week?

A5.  I guess working hard was the best part of the week. Dancing to Disney music and making funny movies would be the funniest part of the week. The Baptism had to be the most spiritual part of the week. The whole week was memorable for me.

Q6.   What is a question you would like Martin and Lydia to answer for you in FHE today?  They can write a letter or postcard with the answer as part of our activity tonight

A6.  Martin: How's the High School life? Does it still suck or are things better? Lydia: How is life for you? Letters from you all will be awesome!!!

Well I got to go because other people need to email as well.  I can only email or use the computer for an hour and I'm way over my limit!!! Love all of you!!!!
